I am boycotting the Health Insurance Industry

I have decided that until a public option is availible, I will no longer support the insurance industry.

I will not take private payer insurance. I realize this is my life Im risking, but I figure If I do it, and enough people that can afford to, do also, then we can actually maybe drown these beasts with the power of the free market.

I dont expect people with children or people with immediate terminal illnesses to join me, but I am asking everyone, who can, If you can afford to drop it.

Then drop it.

even if you do have terminal illness, and you simply feel its worth making a statement, then perhaps nows the time to do it. (Id probably be one of those people)

In 2007, My wife had back surgery, she hated hospitals, and was anxious to leave as soon as it was completed. After 2 days they let us go home.

The average stay for this surgery was 4-5 days. We had no doctors or nurses suggesting otherwise. I can only imagine that my 18,000+$ PPO plan probably had a hand in affecting the attitudes of these professionals.

She died 2 days later of accidental OD after I had asked the ER doctors Twice "should she be readmitted" to get her complications under control

They had her on 5 heavily intoxicating narcotics that impaired her ability to give herself her own medication. A problem that would have been completely avoided had she stayed in the hospital an extra 3 days and gotten her pain down to manageable levels.

My life completely fell apart after this, I lost my job, I began bouts with harddrug use and drinking. We were a family that had struggled but had really started making huge leaps forward in life. We had good money coming in, plans of getting better education, we had the means to accomplish every goal we thought of.

All gone.

18,000$ policy that was supposed to prevent shit like this.

I am just a single man with no idea of what my life should be anymore, but one thing I know is the healthcare in this country KILLS people, it fucking destroys families. This never had to happen. My wife was very poor when she was younger and her son acquired leukemia, The county hospitals she was forced to go to , accused all the "bruising and broken bones" he began acquiring as child abuse.

Until finally a sympathetic doctor ran some X-rays and found cancer.

He is permanently developmentally disabled now from the "experimental" treatments that were required to keep him from dieing.

All avoidable if our health care system would simply provide preventative care to everyone.

I am just one person. My life isnt that important, but what I do with my life is important to me, and right now its offering it as a bet against anyone having to go through what Ive gone through.
